Subtle Medical Lands 11th FDA Clearance for AI That Upgrades CT Images on Aging Scanners

Subtle Medical has received FDA 510(k) clearance for SubtleHD(CT), AI software that reduces image noise and improves low-contrast detectability across CT scanners from different vendors — including older machines. It is the company's 11th FDA-cleared product.

The clearance targets one of radiology's most practical pain points: health systems face relentlessly rising imaging volumes while running mixed fleets of CT scanners of widely varying ages. Replacing hardware is a capital expense many systems are deferring; enhancing the images those machines produce is a software subscription.

CEO Ohad Arazi positioned the product as letting facilities "improve imaging performance while maximizing the value of the infrastructure they already have."

Unlike the detection and triage algorithms that dominate imaging AI headlines, SubtleHD(CT) is an image-enhancement play — improving the raw material every downstream read (human or algorithmic) depends on. It slots into a June 2026 clearance cluster that also included DeepHealth's breast arterial calcification and Mammo Dx products, Keya Medical's DeepVessel Plaque, and Cercare Medical's brain tumor segmentation tools, per Signify Research.
