Oura Ring 5: 40% Smaller, a Health Radar That Watches While You Sleep — and Features for Old Rings Too
The smallest Oura yet ships with background cardiovascular and breathing monitoring, GLP-1 medication insights, and virtual consults in 43 states — and July's software rollout brought key features to Gen 3 and Gen 4 rings.
Oura's fifth-generation smart ring began shipping in June, and it is the company's most aggressive product statement yet: roughly 40% smaller by volume — thickness cut from 3.5mm to 2.8mm, width from 7.9mm to 6mm — with about a week of battery life and an optional $99 charging case that holds around a month of charge.
The headline software feature is Health Radar, developed with input from roughly 40 medical professionals, which monitors nighttime breathing and cardiovascular patterns in the background and surfaces deviations from a user's baseline. The ring also adds live activity tracking, GLP-1 Insights for medication tracking, lab-result uploads, and a Locate feature. Enhanced LED sensing runs across 12 signal pathways.
Pricing, care, and the installed base
Ring 5 is priced at $399 for Silver and Black and $499 for premium finishes, in sizes 6 through 13. Through Connected Care with Counsel Health, virtual consults are available in 43 US states — a notable step for a consumer wearable maker edging into care delivery.
Just as notable is what happened in early July: Oura began rolling select Ring 5 software features out to Gen 3 and Gen 4 rings, extending the life of its installed base rather than stranding it. In a category where Samsung's Galaxy Ring is pressing hard on miniaturization, retention may matter as much as acquisition — especially with an IPO filing sitting at the SEC.
