Canary Speech Brings Vocal Biomarker AI to Zoom Telehealth Visits

Canary Ambient analyzes more than 2,500 acoustic and linguistic features per telehealth visit to flag patterns associated with stress, depression, and cognitive decline — directly inside the Zoom App Marketplace.

Vocal biomarker company Canary Speech has brought its Canary Ambient product to the Zoom App Marketplace, allowing clinicians to run passive vocal analysis during ordinary telehealth visits conducted on the platform.

The system analyzes more than 2,500 acoustic and linguistic features per visit — cadence, pitch variability, word choice, pause patterns — to flag signatures associated with stress, depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. Because the analysis is ambient, it requires no extra tasks from the patient or the clinician: the visit itself is the diagnostic sample.

The integration matters because of where it puts the technology. Telehealth now accounts for a substantial share of behavioral health delivery in the United States — mental health conditions are the top telehealth diagnostic category in every age group, per FAIR Health's utilization tracker — and Zoom remains one of the most widely used clinical video platforms. Embedding screening into the call turns every visit into an opportunity for earlier detection.

Vocal biomarkers sit in a fast-moving corner of diagnostic AI where the science is promising but validation standards are still forming. As with all ambient clinical AI, the practical questions for health systems are consent, documentation, and what a clinician is expected to do with a flag — questions buyers should press every vendor on.
